Inspiration Station #3: Sunny State Vibez

California HERE I COME!! In just two days I will be taking my senior trip to California and I couldn’t be more giddy! It’s been almost 4 years since I was last there!! Not only is it my family’s home state, but it’s where all of my moms side of the family still resides and I’m ECSTATIC that I get to see them all again.

I actually just finished getting all of my outfits together (which I will be sharing regularly so keep your eyes open) and let me just say, it’s gonna be a denim extravaganza! I packed so many pairs of Levis shorts, that I honestly don’t know how my suitcase closed. I’ve been on the prowl hardcore for the past couple weeks for some killer denim shorts and I finally accumulated the collection I envisioned! In case you give a shit, I packed 6 pairs of Levis shorts and 4 white tees (not sorry). Not only did I round up shorts, but I rounded up an assortment of pics ( see below) that I’m getting a lot of inspiration from currently. My mind is filled with pics I’ll take, places I’ll visit,  and the food I’ll eat etc. so if you know me don’t expect me to stop talking about any of that until I return. So I will be going to Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, Los Angeles (super pumped about that) and ending in our hometown of San Diego. If anyone has any insanely dope recommendations for any of the places I’m going (whether it be food, clothes, beaches, rides) please let me know in the comments! Have a great week and stay fab!

Lemonade.

“the crowd erupts in applause, but we can’t hear them”

Lemonade. Or the piece of art that changed my life immensely. I will never ever forget the day of its release, I was anxious, impatient, and riveted. The amount of excitement I had was too much to handle and I didn’t know how to verbalize any of it. From the second I saw her in the field wearing a hoodie/gown hybrid, I knew I was in for a life changing experience. At the time of its release I was about to finish my junior year in high school and I was stressed and timid, and somehow it made everything seem ok. The music pulled me in and shook up my understanding of love, forgiveness, racism, empowerment, and heartbreak. To see a woman so powerful and successful, take an uncomfortable and relevant subject like cheating and channel it into art was so astounding. Getting to see, hear and every feel a deeper level of Beyonce’s life was so humbling and I’m forever grateful to her for letting me experience it. While the ultimate break up songs like “Sorry” and “Don’t hurt yourself” we’re an amazing addition to the cheating theme, but if you look too closely into Jay’s possible infidelity, you’ll lose the true meaning of the album. The album was about forgiving someone for ruining you and to stand up for your rights and to be proud of who you are and where you’re from. I will be forever grateful to Beyonce and for her vision and execution of the greatest album of all time.

Now that you know how much Lemonade means to me, I’ll give you the fashion and fun part of this post. Last night I celebrated….wait for it……….MY GRADUATION!!!!!! Yes that’s right, you’re reading a high school graduate’s blog right now! I’m so excited that I’m done with high school forever and can’t wait to start my life! So about that party, it was such an amazing time and I wish I could do it everyday! All my closest friends and family were present and I was surrounded by so much love and I’m so grateful for the people that showed up and slayed! Being me, I asked all my guests to “serve a look” because I’m very into people throwing caution to the wind and pulling out all the stops for an outfit! I ordered this jumpsuit from ASOS after having fallen in love with it weeks before! It’s one of the most comfortable things I’ve ever worn and I don’t regret wearing it for a second! Obviously the party was Lemonade themed (argo the prologue) and I’m so happy with how everything turned out! Thank you to everyone for coming and serving and for being so loving and supportive!!!! Catch the looks below 😉 and have a great week!

Senior Pics Pt. 1: Levis x YSL

Yes people, it’s finally happening: IM GRADUATING!!! I’m still in absolute shock that it’s I’m about to finish 13 years of school. I’ve waited for this moment for so long and I’m over the moon that it’s so close!

For my senior pictures I wanted to do very organic & natural shoots. That being said, this first shoot is the much more natural side of the overall shoot. When I was planning my outfits and I finished this one, I immediately knew that I wanted a background that was as beautiful as it was interesting. And that’s exactly what I got! Maddy (who is the absolute coolest photographer) and I woke up at about 7 am just to get a sunrise shoot, and I have to say it was very worth it! The sky was breathtaking and the atmosphere was completely serene, and the photos reflect it so very well. Thank you to Maddy Lucas for putting up with my unconventional ideas, and to my mom for supporting everything I chose! I hope you all have a great week and Happy Mother’s Day to my mom and all the amazing mothers out there! (Don’t miss the rest of the sick pictures I’ll be posting this week!) Stay fab!

Back to Black.

Not only is the Beyonce & Andre 300 version of this song my current fav, but that phrase is very relevant to my current fashion mood. I’ve been finding myself gravitating towards the darker clothes in my wardrobe. It’s probably not the smartest idea considering it’s almost summer, but I’m rolling with it! I’m head over heels for these Levis I got from a yard sale. I love mixing different textures and shades like faded black with velvet. Have a great week and stay fab!

Spring Denims

This spring I’m jumping head first into a season of denim. It’s currently the biggest part of my wardrobe & the way I put together looks. The key to any killer look is to begin with a base, and for me my base is always denim. Basically I select one pair from my collection and decide the rest of my outfit based on those jeans. It helps me to organize my thoughts and speed up the process a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware that eventually my jeans will have no place being worn due to the excessive heat and dryness where I live. But, nothing, and I mean nothing stops me from slipping into a good pair of jeans. Also I’m dying over the oval shades trend, you guys know I’m not much of a sunglasses person, but I couldn’t resist these bad boys! Have a great week and stay fab!

My Mom.

my mother is a woman, and women like her cannot be contained”

Yes, this is something a little bit different for 13th St. Today is my mom, Elaine Contreras’ birthday and I wanted to give her an extra special blog post specially written for her.

Before I start you’ll need some background on her, she’s originally from California, her parents divorced when she was young, and she got with my dad when she was about 16 and married him years later. They now have 5 kids, 3 (about to be 4) grandkids, she has 5 dogs that she absolutely adores, and she’s currently in school for her Masters degree in social work. My mother has overcome more than any person I’ve ever known. She’s been through trial after trial and has never given up. She fights harder than any woman I’ve met and she has more conviction and bravery in one finger than an entire crowd of women. She has made such an incredible life for my sisters & I and i will never stop saying how grateful I am for that. I’ve had so many opportunities and experiences because of her. She never fails to amaze me with her sense of positivity while still staying somewhat sane. My mom has been thrown many curve balls but has not let a single thing stock her. Even with all the wild crap I’ve done and made her out up with, she’s never once judged me or treated me like the wild child I am. And it doesn’t hurt that the woman can get down in a kitchen. She’s always made me feel comfortable and safe around her and I will forever be immensely grateful. So thank you mother for always being kind, gracious, patient, brave, powerful, inspiring, goofy, loud, a little crazy, fun, adventurous, and stubborn as hell. I love and cherish you more than any words will ever be able to say. Have a great week and stay fab!

Denim in Durango.

There’s no clothing I love more than denim. Honestly, it’s my absolute favorite thing to wear for any and everything. It’s the ideal base for any type of outfit. You can dress it up, dress it down, mix other shades, and mix it with prints etc. That being said, it’s no secret I love Levis denim in particular. So when I get the chance to wear two Levis pieces, I’m in. I frayed my black Levis 560’s because I wanted to give them a more personal touch. I adore the mix of the tan fur mixed with the washed black denim because it really gave my look an urban yet earthy tone. Hope you have an amazing week and stay fab!
